The Biogold group works in close cooperation with
internationally recognised research institutions on
the scientific evaluation of new subtropical products.
The group’s unique position allows it to facilitate the
combining of cutting edge academic research with
breeding programs. This will, in turn, enable Biogold to
provide innovative new products to markets as these
become commercially viable. Biogold continuously seeks
to partner researchers, breeders and commercial
producers in developing the subtropical fruit sector
internationally. Biogold offers a sound and effective
commercialisation platform for innovators in this field.
The group also functions as a catalyst in introducing
new technologies and new products to subtropical fruit
production areas worldwide, so optimising production
capabilities. Biogold is currently involved in the
introduction of new production sectors
in a number of countries at project
management level and is also involved in
putting infrastructure in place to meet the demand for a
counter-seasonal supply of products from Southern to the
Northern hemisphere markets. There is clear evidence of
major growth of fresh fruit consumption in these markets.
Biogold is equally active in expanding marketing opportunities
in the Near and Far East. The group seeks to involve large
retail outlets in this endeavour, so as to amplify the demand
for subtropical and exotic products in these regions, and is in
the process of making this a reality. The Biogold group of companies
recognises that a greater demand for products will in turn
create a need for both later and earlier selections, as well as
for new selections with improved taste profiles and shelf-lives.
By regulating supply through improved production and
implementing cohesive marketing strategies, Biogold can effectively
aid all players in the value chain from the researcher to the
market. Biogold International also seek to create value adding
opportunities for the subtropical fruit sector by stimulating
research in the extraction and processing of fruits.
Currently in the pipeline for future
commercialisation are: seedless litchi’s, an extension of the
litchi provision in the market by two months, red pigmented kiwi
fruit, very early soft-seeded pomegranates, disease-resistant
bananas, disease-resistant avocado rootstocks, seedless mangoes
and many other exciting products and projects. |
